Has your floor recently been installed? Then you will soon have to start cleaning it. But ... before you get out your mop and detergent, check the maintenance instructions carefully so that you don’t make any mistakes and can enjoy your (new) floor for as long as possible. After all, for every floor there is a specific cleaning product that guarantees the best results.
Do not take any risks
The term ‘all-purpose cleaner’ might make you think that you can use it on your floor, but that is often not the case. In addition, the hundreds of floor cleaning products on the market are also risky, partly because of the possibility of the wrong pH level. You have to take into account the type and finish of your floor.
If you use a product that’s too aggressive, you could damage the floor. How? Well, it's quite possible that the cleaning product you use - especially after some time - lays a kind of film on your floor that makes it look dirty. However, you won't get rid of that film just like that, as it requires a targeted treatment with power cleaners that you often can't do yourself.
You can also remove the protective layer with a product that’s too aggressive, which is not good for the scratch resistance, moisture resistance, impact resistance and visual appearance of your floor. It’s not without good reason that unsuitable cleaning products are the biggest cause of damaged or dirty floors.
A maintenance product tailored to your floor
The best solution? Get advice from experts. Your floor supplier will know exactly how best to clean and protect your type of floor. Many floor manufacturers have developed special maintenance products perfectly suited to their floors. These products are often more effective than general cleaning products and are safer for your floor. It is therefore highly recommended to use them.
Maintaining high pressure floors
High pressure floors are particularly strong and durable and are often used in retail, event halls, etc. Consequently, they can get very dirty. That is why BerryAlloc has developed Ultra Cleaner, which cleans the surface thoroughly without damaging the material.
However, this Ultra Cleaner should absolutely not be used on other floors such as laminate, because it is too aggressive and will damage the surface.
Ideally, you should protect your high pressure floor by stopping dirt and moisture (e.g. with doormats and felt padss) and maintaining the right climate (40-60% humidity, 19-24°C). This will prevent scratches, warping and static build-up.
Maintaining parquet
First of all, you should never clean a parquet floor with a mop that is too wet. Furthermore, the exact maintenance approach depends on the finish of the wood. A varnished wooden floor requires a different cleaning product than an oiled parquet floor.
For a varnished parquet, you can use an ordinary parquet cleaner - matt or glossy, depending on the finish of the wood. Occasionally, you can also use a degreaser to remove cleaning product residues and then reapply protection. Clean an oiled parquet floor with natural soap to nourish the wood. In addition, treat the floor every year with a maintenance oil.
erst en vooral mag je een parketvloer niet met een te natte dweil schoonmaken. Verder hangt de aanpak af van de afwerking van het hout. Een geverniste houten vloer vraagt om een ander reinigingsproduct dan een geoliede parketvloer.
Spilled something? To clean specific stains, proceed as follows:
- Fruit, fruit juices, soft drinks, coffee, tea, milk, blood, urine: with a clean cloth or sponge rinsed in water and well wrung out.
- Chocolate, wax, fats, oils: with a damp cloth and a little detergent.
- Printing ink, biros ink, shoe polish, lipstick, tar: with methanol (white spirit) or denatured alcohol
Cleaning laminate
Laminate is very easy to maintain. You can clean it daily with a soft brush, hoover or dry microfibre cloth. For wet cleaning, use a well-wrung, slightly damp mop. Avoid using too much water.
In addition, clean laminate with a pH-neutral laminate cleaner. Highly concentrated soap products are a no-go anyway. And organic detergents are not good for laminate either, as they will leave a thin greasy film on the surface, causing you to see footprints on it.
Maintaining vinyl planks & tiles
For initial cleaning, it is important to use PU Protect on a clean floor. This is a matt polish that provides initial protection for newly installed and thoroughly cleaned floors. After drying, this product forms a matt slip-resistant finish. Ideally repeat this treatment every two to three months.
For regular cleaning, vacuum or mop with a damp cloth. If necessary, use a solution of clean water and vinyl cleaner.
Maintaining strong wood floors
Strong Wood Floors are treated with Ultimtec lacquer during production, giving the floor extra protection against dirt and scratches, so it is low maintenance choice even though this lacquer makes it harder for moisture to penetrate your floor, wood is still a natural material that absorbs water. That’s why the same tips apply to strong wood floors as to parquet:
- If you spill a liquid on a strong wood floor, remove it as soon as possible so it doesn't have the chance to penetrate your floor and leave stains.
- To clean your floor, simply use a hoover and possibly a wrung-out clean mop.
- Avoid harsh cleaning products. If you want to use a cleaning product, choose the BerryAlloc Cleaner which cleans very gently.
- A few times a year, you can use BerryAlloc's Metallic Renovator to keep the matt finish on point.
- Time for a thorough cleaning after a few years (and 5 five to 10 uses of the Metallic Renovator)? Then use the Blanchon Stripper Degreaser.
